Since the middle of the 1990s foreign developers and hotel management companies have invested hundreds of millions of dollars building new and renovating old hotels in Cuba. In the Capitol of Havana a Cuban enterprise called Habaguanex has led the way with some renovations that are surely upscale (Parque Central, Santa Isabelle and the just opened Telegrapho) but fit the charms and feel of Old Havana which is a UNESCO development zone.

Despite the many improvement and new construction in the hotel sector you can still go very wrong in selecting a hotel. However, we will assist you in your efforts to select the hotel that fits your needs, comfort and safety. Our "Hotel of Choice" in Havana is the Hotel Nacional De Cuba. Why? Because after nearly ten years Hotel Director Tony Martinez and his staff have treated our clients like welcomed guests not just visiting tourists. And, as our company policy clearly indicates, we believe in loyalty to those Cuban enterprises and persons who have treated us well over the years.

Advise to clients coming from the USA trying to make hotel reservations over the Internet! Be very cautious because Cuba will not accept credit cards from American citizens and to hold a reservation without one will be nearly impossible. I have heard many stories of guests arriving in Cuba only to be told that "the reservation was not honored because another international tourist with a valid International credit card was given the room. And, the best hotels in Cuba are nearly always booked to capacity.

Since we have direct representation in Havana and work with the hotels on a personal basis you will never be denied a reservation if one is made with Last Frontier Expeditions. In fact, we will guarantee all reservations as received! And making a reservation is as simple as an email to us with your request.

Room rates are expensive by anyone's standards especially if you reserve your room directly with the hotel. Most per-night rates average $80 - $150 for a single room; $150 - $250 for a standard double and about $400 for a suite. We can guarantee that it is much more convenient, less expensive and more accommodating to make your reservations with us. And, all reservations come with a complimentary hotel breakfast.

Another important thing to consider when selecting a room in Cuba is the location. Do you want contemporary international luxury? Ocean front? Class style? Old Havana style (but beware of the large tourist bus crowds and hawkers on the streets) in this area. Or simply a clean, safe and quiet place to rest your head at night?

Please be advised that Cuba has a very strict rule about keeping most local Cubans from their premise. This is primarily to keep the young women and men from hustling or hassling the clients in lobby areas, bars and poolside. The prostitutes (jiniteras) are also not allowed in the clients rooms. Due to Last Frontier Expedition's excellent reputation in Cuba all of our employees, partners and clients personal guests are allowed use of the pool ($5 fee), restaurants, bars and public areas of the hotel s we frequent. It is always wise good inquire about such courtesies with one of our guides in advance.

Although many guide books recommend private apartments and homes (Casa Particulars) in Cuba, we only reserve such for our regular and special guests. And, these will most often be 2- 4 bedroom luxury accommodations. Also, be very careful if you reserve a Casa Particular over the Internet because almost all of them will take the first cash paying customer they meet and you will arrive without reservations.

It is also advisable for you to have the name of your hotel written on the appropriate place on your entry visa. It is not uncommon for a person to arrive in Cuba without a hotel reservation only to be told by immigrations authorities that they need one. Then the person is given a list of hotel s and asked to pay for one on the spot!

The following is a selection that we strongly recommend for our clients. These are hotels and lodges that "personally represented us for over (10) years and have professional staffs who will be always welcome each of you as a special Last Frontier Expeditions & Safari guest."

Enjoy your visit!
